Unique Stormtrooper

What’s a Weirdling?

Not too long ago there was an amazing post from Joe Peacock that really resonates with me and a lot of other people that I know. I can’t even begin to do his work justice by paraphrasing it so please take some time to read the original article. I will, however, pull a quote here…

“To them, you are weird, but weird is good. No, screw that — weird is great! Being weird to someone just proves that you are being you, which is the most important thing you can ever be. There’s nothing wrong with you. There’s something wrong with them…”

and here’s the line I really love…

“They lost the battle to be themselves. You’re the winner.”

Being “weird,” whether you’re a guy or a girl, means winning the battle to be yourself.

We all have things that we love. Whether it’s Dungeons & Dragons, video games, comics, fashion, photography, music, theatre, tv, medicine, politics, knitting, baking, building birdhouses, bedazzling…those are the things that make us who we are, that make us unique.

More likely than not at some point in our lives we’ve had someone tell us we shouldn’t or couldn’t do those things. Listening to those outside voices forces us to sacrifice the very things that make us unique. We give up the things that make us happy.

That’s no way to live.

The Weirdlings are a celebration of staying true to yourself. Boys. Girls. Teenagers. Adults. There aren’t any boundaries. It’s about everything that people love and create. It’s for giving a voice and a creative safe place for those of us who feel/felt like we didn’t have one before.

So what is a Weirdling?

You tell me.
